Aperture and Depth of Field: A video of an example
Earlier this month I post an article that explained why you have a shallow depth of field. In this video you can easily see the example I was referencing. Each time the T stop opens up and lets more light in you see the background(cage looking expanded metal) blur out. And each time you see the T stop close and lessen the amount of light coming in you can see the background sharpen.
